The Resolution - Part 1 - The Laundry Room

As a sort of resolution for 2014, Pamela and I decided to give our house a good cleaning and a bit of finishing.  We do a decent job of keeping the house clean and tidy but this is going to be a serious deep cleaning.  Room by room we will go through and get EVERYTHING.  The other part of this effort will be adding finishing touches to the spaces.  This will mean different things depending on the area.  It could mean some extra organizing, maybe applying some paint, adding furniture, or putting up some pictures and art.  We have divided the house into 12 areas and are going to try to get to one each month.  I’m not sure how well we’ll be able to stick to the schedule but we are optimistic.

Month 1 – The Laundry Room

We decided to kick off this project with the laundry room and storage area.  No clear reason to start here except Pamela received a wall decal for Christmas and was anxious to put it up.  The laundry room itself was already in pretty good shape.  I recently blogged about the Laundry Room project we completed last year.  So for here we just needed to perform the deep-cleaning and put up the wall decoration.  The more involved part would be the attached under-stair storage area.

This was a catch all area for mops, brooms, vacuums, cleaning supplies, patio stuff, and other random things that we need but wanted out of sight.  We went with a cube shelf unit and a neat infomercial-style wall mop holder to get everything up off the floor and organized.  Then the patio cushions and other outdoor items were moved to a new deck box on the patio where they belong.

Before
After

We finished up with the room by the end of January.  We’re still on schedule through month 1; let’s hope we can keep it going.  Next up:  the front living room.
